St. Vincent

A small island with a population of just under 120,000, St. Vincent lies just north of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean Sea. Since gaining its independence from the United Kingdom in 1979, St. Vincent has based most of its economy on agriculture, tourism, and to a lesser extent, offshore banking. The country is clouded with debt and the unemployment rate is above 20%. The official currency is the East Caribbean dollar which has a fixed exchange rate to the U.S. dollar, US$1=EC$2.70. The official language is English. St. Vincent’s restrictive secrecy laws on offshore banks have caused some concern and as a result, the local government is stepping in to address these issues.
